HOKES BLUFF — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is investigating a double-fatal crash in Etowah County.
The crash happened at 1:04 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, 2019, on U.S. 411, at the intersection of Appalachian Highway. The scene was 3 miles west of Hokes Bluff.
Investigators said Clinton Don Mathis, 25, was killed when the 1999 Toyota Camry he was driving collided with a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado.
Troopers said Mathis was not wearing a seatbelt. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
A 4-year-old child in Mathis’ vehicle was also pronounced dead on the scene. Senior Trooper Chuck Daniel said the 4-year-old was not restrained.
A 2-year-old passenger in Mathis’ vehicle was hurt and was taken to Gadsden Regional Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the truck was not hurt.
