MILWAUKEE β Milwaukee County Transit System bus driver Jamie Grabowski had just ended her route at around midnight on Dec. 18 when she happened up two dogs running unattended up and down a street.
As temperatures hovered around 20 degrees, Grabowski stopped her bus and called out to the two wandering pups.
“Hey, you two. You need to go home right now,” Grabowski said. “C’mon, c’mon, c’mon inside.”
With a little encouragement, Grabowski guided the two dogs, a pit bull and Doberman Pinscher, onto the bus. The two did a little exploring as Grabowski called authorities.
The dogs, who were no worse for wear, enjoyed some playtime with the bus driver, who is an avid animal lover, as they waited for authorities to arrive.
Upon arrival, an officer from the Milwaukee Police Department carried the dogs to a squad car and drove them to the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission where the dogs were determined to be in good health and “very sweet and playful.”
Grabowski later learned that the dogs had escaped from their family’s yard, which was about three miles away. The family, who had been looking for them, was reunited with their beloved dogs just in time for Christmas.
Two lost dogs are back with their grateful family this holiday season thanks to the vigilance, kindness and compassion of MCTS Bus Driver Jaime Grabowski. πΆππ #MCTSExcellence https://t.co/MYavaVvziv pic.twitter.com/nunhO2Hs1P
