The long and arduous NFL journey continues for former Hewitt-Trussville offensive lineman Casey Dunn as the first-team Walter Camp FCS All-American has returned from football obscurity to join the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad.
Dunn, who was waived by the Washington Redskins with an injury designation in July, was cut from the team in September. He has been out of football since.
The former Jacksonville State and Auburn center earned a roster spot with the Redskins in 2018, but he played in only six special team plays in two games before being waived on Nov. 9. Dunn spent the remainder of the 2018 season on the practice squad.
The 6-foot-4, 307-pound lineman now joins a New Orleans team that is in the hunt for a first-round bye in the playoffs. Should the Saints lock that bye, Dunn will get close to three weeks of work with the team.
The practice squad spot opened because the Green Bay Packers signed John LeGlue.
Dunn went unselected in the 2018 NFL Draft, but he was signed by the Redskins following a tryout during rookie minicamp.
