TUSCALOOSA COUNTY — UPDATE: Boyd is now in custody and being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail. He was taken into custody by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Kip Hart, a murder warrant has been issued for a Birmingham man suspected of a New Years Day homicide in the Lakeview community in Tuscaloosa County.
On Jan. 1, 2020, at approximately 5 p.m., officers with the Lakeview Police Department responded to the 21000 block of Tammie Drive on a shooting call, Hart said in a statement.
When they arrived they located a 49-year-old female who had been shot. The female was pronounced deceased on the scene. Investigators have identified the victim as Carla Fluker Mack. The shooting happened at her residence.
“Witnesses stated that Mack had recently broken up with her boyfriend, identified as Carl Evans Boyd, 57 years of age,” Hart said. “Witnesses advised that Boyd came to Mack’s residence shortly before 5 p.m. and went into her bedroom. They heard some type of commotion and saw Boyd leave. They then located Mack suffering from gunshot wounds.”
According to Hart, investigators have obtained a murder warrant on Boyd. At this time he has not been located. Boyd is from the Birmingham area.
Hart said investigators are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact their local law enforcement or Crime Stoppers.
Boyd was last seen driving a 2015 Blue Jeep Grand Cherokee, bearing Alabama tag LBA028. He is described as a black male, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 215 lbs. He was last seen wearing a dark gray and black block pattern shirt and pants, black glasses and black Army hat. He may still be armed with a handgun.
