CENTER POINT — The Center Point Fire District responded to a record-breaking number of calls in 2019.
The department received 9,245 emergency calls in 2019. In 2018, there were 9,039 calls.
The engine with the most calls was Engine 1, with 3,869 calls. The rescue unit with the most calls was Rescue 11, with 2,081 calls.
Cpt. Chris Horn said most of the house fires the department responded to were cooking fires.
“We recommend everyone has Fire Stop,” said Horn. “And of course, as Chief Coleman always says, keep a beep where you sleep and close the door where you snore.”
Horn said it is important for everyone to have a working smoke detector. If you do not have one, you can contact the admin building at (205) 853-5098.
The Center Point Fire District is rated as an ISO – Class I. The rating comes from the Insurance Services Office, which creates ratings based on how well equipped the department is to handle fires in its community. Class I is the best rating possible, which helps reduce insurance rates for businesses and homeowners.
