TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Police Department released the identity of the man arrested after a jewelry store burglary and police chase.
O’Laja Burnett, 25, of Birmingham, is facing charges of burglary third degree, theft of property first degree, criminal mischief first degree, possession of burglary tools, fleeing /attempt to elude, criminal tampering second degree and reckless endangerment.
Police arrested Burnett after officers received an alarm call at Zales Jewelry in the 5000 block of Pinnacle Square, around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5.
As officers arrived on the scene, they saw broken glass at the store and they noticed a van leaving the area. Officers attempted to stop the van and a chase ensued. The officers were eventually able to stop the van in the 6600 block of Deerfoot Parkway. No one was hurt.
Burnett will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail with bonds totaling $55,900, according to Trussville Police.
