A new dress code has been enacted by Carnival Cruise Line that prevents guests from wearing lewd, crude or downright rude clothing on its ships.
The ban, which was set in place in December, is meant to target offensive clothing that “contain any message that may be considered offensive or contain nudity, profanity, sexual innuendo/suggestions. In addition, clothing/accessories should not promote negative ethnic or racial, commentary, or hatred or violence in any form,” the company said via its website.
The amended dress code was brought into existence following reports of customers wearing clothes with threatening messages.
Those reports initiated discussions regarding “how we were prepared to handle such a situation and the need for clarification to both guests and crew,” Carnival Cruise Line spokesman Vance Gulliksen said to CNN. “We already have some basic clothing guidelines in place and our guests respect them and understand we are a family-focused business.”
