SPRINGVILLE — The Springville Police Department arrested four people this past Friday after officers discovered a pound of synthetic marijuana following a traffic stop.
On Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, officers from the Springville Police Department initiated a traffic stop on I-59 south at mile marker 154 after the targeted vehicle improperly changed lanes. Following a search conducted on probable cause, the officers discovered 454 grams of synthetic marijuana in the vehicle.
The find led to the arrest of four individuals in the vehicle: Jimmy Bedell, of Center Point; Brittany Melton, of Pinson; Tiara King, of Birmingham; and Curtus Townsend III, of Bessemer. All four were charged with drug trafficking along with other charges.
Bedell faces additional charges of unlawful possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of heroin, illegal possession of prescription drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond is set at $113,000.
Melton faces additional charges of unlawful possession of cocaine and unlawful possession of marijuana (2nd). Her bond is set at $103,500.
King faces additional charges of promoting prison contraband, unlawful possession of marijuana (2nd) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond is set at $104,000.
Townsend faces additional charges of using a false identity to obstruct justice. His bond is set at $102,500.
All four suspects were transported to the St. Clair County Jail. They are, of course, presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
