TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Police Department released new details about a woman facing multiple charges in connection to an identity theft case.
Amber Jones, 24, of Birmingham, was arrested from a Regions Bank, in Clay, where she worked, on Friday, Jan. 24, 2020.
According to a police report, a 17-year-old from Trussville first contacted Trussville to Go, when he noticed a charge on his bank account that he didn’t recognize. Trussville to Go then notified police.
As investigators tracked the charge, Jones was identified as a person of interest in the case. A search warrant was executed at the home of Amber Jones. Upon examination of financial records, several potential additional victims were discovered, including Grub Hub, Uber Eats and high-end, online clothing boutiques and shoe stores.
Detectives also discovered all of the cards used were from customers of the same bank, where Jones was employed as a part-time teller.
Investigators believe Jones had been using customer’s credit cards for 3-4 months. They said more victims could be identified as the investigation continues. They believe there are victims in the Trussville, Clay and Pinson areas.
Regions Bank’s corporate security team and branch manager assisted police and Jones was taken into custody before the bank opened on Friday, Jan. 24. Detectives said the bank was cooperative and helpful during the investigation. Regions Bank released the following statement on the matter:
Regions is working closely with law enforcement in investigating this matter, and we appreciate the work of detectives who are pursuing justice in this case. We have absolutely no tolerance for the activities that are alleged, and we will take appropriate action as additional information is confirmed.
Jones is facing charges of trafficking in stolen identities and two counts of identity theft. More charges are expected, including at least seven counts of theft of services in Trussville.
Jones is considered innocent until proven guilty.
