BESSEMER — The Pinson Valley boys’ basketball team survived yet another close game on Wednesday as Bessemer City was unable to stymie the Indians in the final quarter in what was a 59-54 victory for the boys from Pinson.
The victory propelled the Indians to 24-3, 4-0 in Class 6A, Area 12. Pinson Valley has now won 15 consecutive games.
In the game, Bessemer City led for throughout the first three quarters before Pinson Valley was able to tighten on defense in the final quarter — The Indians’ defense allowed just seven points in the fourth quarter.
Despite sitting out the majority of the first half, senior Kam Woods recorded 39 points with 6 steals. Junior Ga’Quincy McKinstry added 18 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals.
Following the win, the Alabama Sports Writers Association released its weekly rankings and Pinson Valley retained its top spot in Class 6A for the third straight week.

Pinson Valley has just one game remaining in the regular season, at Gadsden City on Jan. 30, before the Area 12 tournament commences in February.
The Indians will host the event. They will await the winner of Pell City and Clay-Chalkville in the championship round on Feb. 6 at 7 p.m.
Pinson Valley is 3-0 again those teams this season.
