TRUSSVILLE – Though the nation caught wind of Trussville native Jordan Lynn after the sure-footed senior Hewitt-Trussville field goal kicker and star soccer player etched her name into Alabama lore after she went 2-for-2 in her regular season debut against Hoover in September, those that knew Lynn were far from surprised after she bucked decades of tradition and became the first girl to don a Huskies varsity football jersey and take to the field.
“This is definitely something that not a lot of people do,” Lynn said after her debut in the Huskies’ fourth game of the 2019 season. “Not a lot of girls come out for kicker, but I really do want to influence other people to go out and try different things that they really want to and really believe in.”
Following her successful indoctrination into the Huskies’ football family, Lynn proceeded to conclude the season 20-for-20 on extra points and 2-for-2 on field goals in seven games, according to stats provided by Maxpreps. For her ability to step into a desperately needed role nearly midway through the season, Lynn earned a second-team All-Tribune kicker nod behind only Clay-Chalkville’s Jaren Van Winkle.
“While Jordan’s accomplishments on the field are special and unique, it was the way she used that platform to inspire others that made her our Person of the Year for 2019,” Tribune publisher Scott Buttram said. “Society, especially our young people, need positive role models today more than ever. Jordan fits the bill in every way.”
Though Lynn’s name will remain synonymous with her courage and skill on the football field, that portion of her life is but a small window into a world dedicated to serving others and working to be the best person and athlete that she can be.
As tiring as that might all sound, she still has the wherewithal to maintain a 4.262 GPA, play two varsity high school sports, participate on high-level club soccer teams, make time to help her parents with her four younger siblings and volunteer for multiple organizations.
“As a leader, she is the kind of player that comes and gets the keys and gets everything out of the locker room,” Hewitt-Trussville girls’ soccer head coach Lauren Wooten said of her senior star. “She then goes and takes shots on goal to get better. She is just one of a kind.”
The Mercer soccer commit not only finds the time to remain deeply involved with her family, but she spends hours honing her skills in preparation for her upcoming DI soccer career with a Bears team that finished this past season 16-4.
Off the pitch, Lynn volunteers at the Church of the Highlands and participates in several organizations. She is a senator for the National Honors Society, a member of Mu Alpha Theta, a member of the Spanish National Honors Society, Key Club, Spanish Club, Service Association and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She has also organized and volunteered for Dance with Cancer, as well as achieving a whole host of other accolades.
“My first impressions with Jordan are actually from church,” Wooten said. “I think Jordan exemplifies the small-town southern belle in the aspect of her faith runs her life. She does everything to glorify God.”
Next time you see Lynn working at Meals by Misty or lifting in the gym, just keep in mind that you are currently in the presence of The Trussville Tribune’s 2019 Person of the Year.
