BIRMINGHAM — A Birmingham man was arrested on Wednesday in the Kingston housing community following the shooting death of a 34-year-old man earlier this year.
The Birmingham Police Department announced that Corderious Scroggins, 25, of Birmingham, was arrested on Wednesday by the Birmingham Police Department’s Crime Reduction Team after they located him in the Kingston neighborhood of Birmingham. Scroggins faces a charge of capital murder. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail.
The shooting in question occurred on Jan. 6, at 11:15 a.m., in the 4400 block of Ninth Avenue North. South Precinct officers received a Shot Spotter alert in the area. Upon arrival to the scene, they discovered a man unresponsive within a car suffering from a gunshot wound. Treatment was rendered by Birmingham Fire and Rescue, but the victim was pronounced deceased before transportation to the hospital.
The deceased man was identified as Douglas Paige, 34, of Fairfield.
Following an investigation, a warrant was obtained for Scroggins after authorities learned that Paige had been involved in a physical altercation three individuals. One suspect fired into the victim’s car before he could leave the scene.
