BROOKSIDE — A woman found within a dilapidated Brookside home and allegedly held against her will and forced to perform sex acts has been reported to have been found and has been readmitted into a rehabilitation center.
The Brookside Police Department posted this past Saturday on Facebook that the victim, Shannon McKinney, 25, of Brookside, had left a treatment center early that Friday morning.
In a statement released by attorneys Ike Gulas, of the Morgan & Morgan Law Firm, and Rob Wolfe, of the Ike Gulas Law Firm, the family of Shannon McKinney is “pleased to report that Shannon, who has been missing for several days, contacted us yesterday and has since been admitted into a rehabilitation center where she will receive the necessary treatment and counseling she need.
“Our family is asking for privacy so we can focus on getting Shannon well and reunited with her three beautiful children. Any inquiries or requests should be directed to our attorneys at this time. Due to the ongoing investigation, it is not appropriate to comment regarding that aspect of Shannon’s disappearance. We are communicating with the authorities through our attorneys.”

A person of interest in the case turned himself in on Saturday. Logan Williams, who has been cooperating with the investigation, was placed under arrest for previous warrants in Jefferson County for failure to appear, burglary, theft and obstruction of justice. He has been given no bond.
No official charges have been filed against Williams in connection to the prostitution case.
However, felony arrest warrants have been issued for a second person of interest, Steven Hollier. He currently faces charges of theft of services in the second degree and utility tampering.
The investigation began on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020, when officers were called to the 100 block of Church Street to assist Alabama Power in an investigation over the theft of utilities.
Utility investigators said a white man fled from the home when they made contact with him. Brookside officers arrived on the scene and found a female prostitution victim inside. Police said the woman had been held in the home, drugged and forced against her will to have sex with men in exchange for money, drugs or stolen goods for more than a year.
The home was in horrible condition with no running water or utilities, although it had been illegally wired for power, police added.
“At approximately 12:15 p.m., the Brookside Tactical Operations Unit and Investigators executed a search warrant on the suspect residence,” police mentioned in a statement. “Officers located a large amount of syringes, stolen credit cards and property from numerous victims in and around Jefferson, Walker and Shelby County, narcotic paraphernalia and additional confidential items of evidence.”
The two men are suspected of promoting prostitution, narcotics trafficking, theft of services, possession of drug paraphernalia and other felonies.
Police are also searching for information on several other men who sexually assaulted the victim.
“We would like to remind the public the threat of human trafficking, kidnapping, sexual abuse, and drug abuse in our society is real,” police said. “It is here. It is next door. It is across the street. It is everywhere. No community is immune to the threat. Be educated, vigilant, and protect yourself from becoming a victim.”
