VESTAVIA HILLS — A man was fatally shot by Vestavia Hills police on Saturday afternoon following a report of a man with a gun near a residential neighborhood.
The Vestavia Hills Police Department released a statement on Facebook late Saturday night following an officer-involved shooting in the 4400 Block of Old Overton Road. According to the release, an officer arrived to the scene following a report of man in the area with a gun. Upon arrival at around 4:20 p.m., the officer and suspect engaged each other where in which the suspect was subsequently shot.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Vestavia Hills Police Department reported that an officer was injured in the incident and was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is conducting the investigation.
No other information has been released.
