From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville United Soccer Club will host a free community-based soccer training program this March for athletes with intellectual, emotional and/or physical disabilities.
The TOPSoccer event, which stands for The Outreach Program for Soccer, is scheduled for Saturday, March 3 from 3-4 p.m., with the purpose of providing soccer opportunities for players to develop at their own pace in a safe, fun and supportive/inclusive environment.
The program is designed to foster the physical, mental and emotional growth of kids with special needs through soccer.
TOPSoccer was formed to perpetuate the US Youth Soccer mission statement, which is, in part, “To foster the physical, mental and emotional growth and development of America’s youth through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and competition. There are thousands of children with disabilities who need, and can be provided with, the opportunity to play soccer through the TOPSoccer program.”
Any child that falls within the U4-U19 age group, and with any physical or mental disability, is invited to join.
Participants will be grouped by need, and each player will be paired with a sidekick.
