BIRMINGHAM — An off-duty Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested on Friday on charges of driving under the influence.
Jefferson County Jail records indicate that Robert Wayne Latta, 53, of Remlap, was apprehended and booked into the facility early Friday afternoon on charges of DUI and reckless driving. He faced a bond of $600.
According to the sheriff’s department, Latta was driving his patrol car off-duty on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at around noon when another sheriff’s deputy noticed that Latta was driving erratically down Highway 79. The deputy attempted to stop Latta to see if he was in any distress, but Latta failed to stop until he reached his residence.
Once stopped, the deputy discovered that Latta was under the influence of alcohol and promptly took him into custody.
Robert Latta has been placed on administrative leave pending a formal investigation.
