CENTER POINT — The city of Center Point is focusing on keeping streets clear from trash, after cleaning up several illegal dumpsites across the city.
Code Enforcement Officer Bryant Evans said trash, old furniture and other items have been dumped in several spots over the past five months. One site was in the 100 block of 21st Avenue. Another spot was in the area of Walgreens on Center Point Parkway.
“We are just periodically finding places where people have dumped trash,” said Evans. “Some household items and some furniture.”
Evans said no addresses were found in the trash, so the city is not sure where it came from. He said if someone is caught dumping trash, they could face a penalty of up to $500.
The Dannon Project is partnering with the city to help keep the streets clean.
“Once a month they come out and help us pick up trash,” said Evans.
According to its website, The Dannon Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that helps unemployed or underemployed at-risk youth and non-violent returning citizens reentering society.
