ANNISTON, Ala. (AP) — A man first sentenced to death for a 1998 killing in east Alabama will instead serve life without parole for the killing.
A Calhoun County judge imposed the sentence on Greg Renard Wynn, 39, following a three-day hearing, Attorney General Steve Marshall’s office said in a release Friday.
Wynn was sentenced to die in the killing of restaurant manager Denise Bliss in Anniston in 1998. Wynn had worked at the same Hardee’s location and was 17 at the time of the slaying.
The new sentencing hearing was held because of the Supreme Court decision which said the death penalty is unconstitutional for minors.
Wynn has had multiple disciplinary infractions while in prison, prosecutors said, and evidence showed he maintained a social media account while locked up against prison rules. Wynn told a relative last year he didn’t need rehabilitation, prosecutors charged.
