BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police are investigating two separate incidents after two people were found dead over the weekend, according to Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin.
On Saturday, Feb. 29, officers from the North Precinct responded to a fight call at Second Avenue North and 13th Street.
According to Mauldin, when officers arrived they discovered the victim laying on the ground unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived to the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital with life threatening injuries.
“Detectives were later notified that the victim succumb to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff,” Mauldin said. “Based off information gathered during the preliminary investigation, detectives have classified the incident as a homicide.“
Jefferson County Coroner Bill Yates said the victim died from blunt force trauma.
On Sunday, March 8, at approximately 7:17 p.m., officers responded to a person down call at 1712 Maple Avenue.
Upon arrival Officers discovered the victim laying in the yard unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue and Jefferson County Coroner arrived and pronounced the victim deceased.
Mauldin said that details are limited in the shooting investigation.
The victims have not been identified and no suspects are in custody at this time.
