BIRMINGHAM – The Hewitt-Trussville Huskies took care of James Clemens 11-0 in five innings Monday night. The game was played on the campus of UAB at Mary Bowers Field.
“It was great experience for our girls to get to play at such a great facility like this,” Hewitt-Trussville head coach Taylor Burt said.
The Huskies managed to keep their bats hot from the beginning. After a walk from Hannah Dorsett to begin the game, Alabama commit Jenna Lord launched a two-run home run to give the Huskies a lead they would never relinquish.
Hewitt-Trussville used a combination of three hits and two walks in the third inning to added five more runs. Hannah Dorsett singled to start the inning and was chased around by a triple from freshman Kenleigh Cahalan. Lord reached on a dropped third strike that scored Cahalan from third base. Troy commit Crystal Maze followed with a single over the shortstop’s head that brought Lord around to score from first. Anyce Harvey walked to move Maze to second base. A sacrifice bunt moved both runners to second and third. Maze came around to score on a wild pitch and Harvey was brought in by a sacrifice fly.
The Huskies added four more runs in a fourth inning that was highlighted by a Cahalan two-run home run.
Senior Kaitlyn Hughes threw four scoreless innings. She gave up just one hit and struck out two.
“We got the bats going early and barreled up a lot of balls from the top of the lineup to the bottom,” Burt said.
Hewitt Trussville returns to action on Wednesday at Jacksonville State University against Pigsah. Hewitt defeated Pigsah previously this season, 11-2, in the Jag Classic.
