TRUSSVILLE — The Alabama Sports Writers Association announced its annual season-ending awards late Friday night and a Hewitt-Trussville girls’ basketball junior was named to the All-State girls basketball team following a dominant season for the Huskies.
Amiya Payne, Hewitt-Trussville’s stalwart point guard, was named to the Class 7A All-State First Team. This is the third consecutive season that Payne was named to the All-State team. The 6-foot junior was a force for a Huskies team that 19-9 in 2019 before witnessing their season end at the hands of Vestavia Hills in the Class 7A, Area 6 tournament.

This season followed a 2018-19 campaign where Hewitt-Trussville advanced into the Class 7A state championship game before falling to Hoover.
Following the loss to Vestavia Hills in the area tournament, Payne was named to the All-Area Tournament team along with teammates Erica Jones and Jordan Hunter.
Payne finished her junior season with 19 total points in the loss.
