BIRMINGHAM — A man wanted for attempted murder was apprehended on Friday afternoon following a police chase in Birmingham.
The incident began when Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a Dodge Charger on I-65 southbound at around 3 p.m., on Friday, March 13, that had been reported stolen. The man driving the Charger fled instead of stopping and proceeded to exit the interstate onto Green Springs Highway.
The man struck several vehicles during the pursuit. Deputies were able to stop the vehicle between Elm Street and Jefferson Avenue in southwest Birmingham.
Upon the suspect’s arrest, deputies discovered that he was in possession of a stolen gun in addition to the stolen vehicle. Later identified as Fredrick Lamar Davis, deputies also learned that he had an outstanding warrant for attempted murder from St. Clair County.
Davis was charged with the additional crimes of theft of property 1st degree, certain persons forbidden to possess firearm, leaving the scene of an accident, attempting to elude, disorderly conduct and driving while license suspended.
The bonds for Davis total $165,300.00. A male passenger in the vehicle was also found to be in possession of a weapon without a permit and warrants will be obtained against him.
