BIRMINGHAM — In an emergency meeting on Monday, March 16, members of the Jefferson County Commission voted to declare a State of Emergency in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
The goal of the declaration is to allow maximum resources to fight the spread of the virus. Commissioners also voted to close county facilities and courthouses.
The Alabama Department of Public Health has confirmed at least 12 cases of coronavirus in Jefferson County. There are 22 statewide.
No deaths due to the virus have been reported in the state of Alabama.
