TRUSSVILLE — As we all well know by now, the coronavirus pandemic has proven to be difficult to navigate. As the economy grinds to a slow halt, the sports world has followed suit and shut its doors until further notice.
The AHSAA, which halted all spring sports until told otherwise, has kept open the possibility of starting up spring sports play again and has created a spring sports contingency committee to study and provide a plan regarding regular season and championship play if teams are able to continue their seasons.
“The date schools return to a regular schedule will determine what plan is implemented for the remainder of the school year,” AHSAA executive director Steve Savarese said in a memo released to state superintendents, principals, athletic directors and spring sports head coaches.
With the possibility of high school sports revving back up in the following weeks, let’s take a breath and look at where the teams within The Trussville Tribune coverage sit as we carry on with the mandated dead period.
Mind you, these are sports that can be tracked with records and standings. This excludes outdoor track and field and the other niche sports.
Those teams are Center Point, Clay-Chalkville, Hewitt-Trussville, Leeds, Moody, Pinson Valley and Springville.
Mind you, these records are unofficial as high school sports record and stat tracking is more hope and prayer than science.
