BIRMINGHAM — A man charged with capital murder in the shooting death of another man in Tarrant, in 2017, has been released from jail.
Joshawn Darnell McCall, 22, of Tarrant, was released from the Jefferson County Jail on March 14, according to jail records.
McCall is suspected in the shooting death of Marcus Jermain Felder, 30, on Jan. 30, 2017. McCall, who was 19 at the time of the shooting. Attorneys for McCall have requested youthful offender status and are awaiting a mental health evaluation.
Police said the victim was killed near the intersection of Prosh Avenue and Cambron Street. They said the victim and his brother went to the suspect’s home looking for a car that had been stolen from the victim’s brother. Witnesses said the visit turned into a verbal altercation and that the victim and his brother were leaving when McCall fired a shot at their car, striking Felder in the head.
McCall has also been indicted on a burglary third-degree charge and an obstruction of justice charge in connection to unrelated cases. He was being held on $257,500 in bonds, until he posted a good bond (cash, property or held from a bondsman) and was released over the weekend. His attorneys requested a reduced bond but that request was denied in January.
A trial date has not been set for McCall on any of the charges.
The court has continued the murder case in order to complete a mental health review.
