The Alabama Sports Writers Association released its weekly high school softball rankings for a week of softball that never was.
With a mandatory dead period having set upon Alabama high school sports for an indefinite period of time, the newly updated ASWA softball rankings could very well be the final rankings of the 2020 season.
If that is the case, Hewitt-Trussville, Moody and Springville softball will conclude the season ranked among the top 5 teams in the state.
The Huskies, which sit at 12-1-1, have been dominant this season. They sit sit just behind nationally-ranked Spain Park, which remains undefeated and sits atop Class 7A. The Jaguars recently defeated the Huskies in a tough, 5-3, victory in the Jaguar Classic championship game on March 7.
Moody, which sat at No. 8 in the most recent ASWA Class 5A rankings, has jumped to No. 3 behind Hayden and Tallahassee. Moody enters the dead period with a 7-2-2 record. The Blue Devils’ losses have come to Pell City and Helena.
Springville, which has typically been dominant in softball throughout the years, sits at No. 5 in Class 5A. The Tigers’ only losses have come against Moody and Bob Jones. Springville fell from No. 3 to No. 5 since this past week’s rankings.
