CENTER POINT — A teenager was arrested by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies on Thursday morning following a failed carjacking at a gas station in Center Point.
Deputies arrested Daxton Elliot Keith, 19, after the teen attempted to steal a vehicle from the Bama Gas Station on Center Point Parkway at around 7: 30 a.m. on Thursday, March, 19, 2020.
According to authorities, Keith attempted to steal a vehicle from a gas pump as the customer went inside the store; The customer had left the vehicle running and unlocked. Keith was observed entering the vehicle and was promptly confronted by the vehicle’s owner.
Keith tried to drive away but the owner was able to extract him from the vehicle. Keith then fled into a wooded area.
Deputies arrived upon the scene and tracked Keith down in a nearby neighborhood. He was arrested and booked into the Jefferson County Jail and charged with theft of property in the first degree. He is being held on a $15,000 bond.
