TUSCALOOSA — The city of Tuscaloosa is implementing a new curfew to combat the spread of coronavirus.
Mayor Walt Maddox announced the curfew on Wednesday, March 25, during a press conference. It will take effect on Friday, March 27 and will begin at 10 p.m. and last until 5 a.m., daily.
“We have to respond with our convictions and our actions,” Maddox said.
Maddox said the curfew will remain in place until April 3.
“Every single day we will be evaluating the effectiveness of the curfew and track its record and make certain that it’s going to meet its intended goal,” Maddox said.
As of Wednesday, 10 of the state’s 283 coronavirus cases were in Tuscaloosa County. Maddox said the purpose of the curfew is to stop the spread of coronavirus and to try and avoid overwhelming hospitals.
