MONTGOMERY — An employee with the Alabama Department of Public Health has tested positive for COVID-19, the department announced on Monday, March 30.
The positive test is the first coronavirus case for an ADPH employee.
The employee works at the Bureau of Clinical Laboratories in Montgomery. Laboratory testing confirmed this diagnosis.
The department emphasized that the individual has had no public interaction on the job and was not working on COVID-19 testing. Staff working in close contact with the employee have been sent home for isolation. The building where the employee works is being cleaned and disinfected.
ADPH has encouraged sick employees to stay home, increased teleworking and enacted social distancing measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
