BESSEMER — The young child shot in the head on Monday, March 30, by his older brother has been identified by Jefferson County authorities.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the child as Sean Rose, 12, of Bessemer.
Rose was shot while he and his brother were playing with a gun in the 500 block of 29th Street North in Bessemer. The weapon discharged in the older brother’s hand, striking Rose in the head, Lt. Christian Clemons said.
Rose was taken to Children’s of Alabama where he was pronounced dead at 4:15 p.m., per Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates.
The 16-year-old brother was detained for questioning. No charges have been filed, police said. It’s unclear who owns the gun.
The investigation is ongoing.
