BIRMINGHAM — Jefferson County Sheriff’s Mark Pettway, his staff and their families have taken up Tyler Perry’s call for prayer through song and unveiled their own version of “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” on Facebook.
Perry, who posted the song on Instagram, turned it into a social media challenge using the hashtag #HesGotTheWholdWorldChallenge.
“It’s my hope that we add to this simple song in every language from every nation as we let it become a prayer for our whole world!” Perry wrote on Instagram.
Perry also shared a video compilation in which a series of other stars, including Jennifer Hudson, Yolanda Adams, Fantasia Barrino and Johnny Gill, sang the song. That clip has been viewed more than 1.6 million times.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office’s version released on Tuesday, March 31, features its own unique set of talents: from the tone deaf (bless their heart), to country, to a baritone and to soothing gospel, this version is to be enjoyed by all.
“My office is still at work for Jefferson County but our staff and family wanted to send positive energy your way today,” Pettway said. “We hope you enjoy!”
