CENTER POINT — An investigation is underway after the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said an unknown assailant fired shots into a vehicle in Center Point on Friday night seriously wounding a 16-year-old girl.
Shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Friday, April 3, deputies were called to the 1900 block of First Street Northeast in Center Point. Once on the scene, they discovered a 16-year-old passenger in a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds.
The Sheriff’s Office released a statement that said, the driver of the vehicle observed a silver SUV pulled over on the side of the roadway, and a black male was standing in the middle of the road with a gun.
The male began to shoot into their vehicle. As the victims attempted to flee the scene, the suspect rammed their vehicle with his SUV. The victim was able to drive away from the scene and call 911.
Once stopped, the driver discovered that the passenger had been stuck by the gunfire. The passenger was transported to UAB Hospital with life threatening injuries.
No suspects are in custody at this time and the shooting remains under investigation.
