TRUSSVILLE – Not only is Hewitt-Trussville’s Riley Quick ranked as one of the top 10 football players in the class of 2022, the right-handed pitcher was just announced by Perfect Game as the second-best sophomore high school baseball player in the state and as one of the top players in the nation.
Quick, a four-star football player for the Huskies, was recently ranked by 247Sports as the second-best sophomore football player in Alabama. The 6-foot-5, 242-pound defensive/offensive lineman is the younger brother of Alabama offensive lineman Pierce Quick. Riley has garnered interest from several top tier programs throughout the country despite just two seasons of high school football. As of April, he has offers from Missouri, The Citadel, Georgia Tech, UAB, Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech.
His athleticism carries over onto the diamond as an opposing righty who was touted by Perfect Game as a dominating pitcher with a strong arm. The organization noted during the 2020 Perfect Game High School Showcase hosted by Hoover High School that his fastball lives between 86-90 with life and his breaking ball tops 80 mph. As a result, Quick was ranked by Perfect Game as the second-best baseball player in Alabama and sits at No. 141 in the nation.
The Huskies concluded the season 11-5 and did not get to play a region opponent following the news from Alabama State Superintendent Dr. Eric Mackey that the Alabama high school spring sports season would not resume as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
