MONGTOMERY – Former Alabama State stalwart and Super Bowl champion Tarvaris Jackson died in a car crash in Montgomery on Sunday night.
Jackson, 36, was killed in a single-car crash several miles south of Montgomery just prior to 9 p.m. on Sunday night. According to authorities, his 2012 Chevrolet Camaro left the road, struck a tree and flipped. Jackson was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Jackson was a second-round NFL draft pick out of Alabama State. He played in 10 seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills and the Seattle Seahawks. He started 34 games, including 14 for the Seahawks in 2011. In his career, Jackson threw for more than 7,200 yards with 39 touchdowns and 35 interceptions. He won a Super Bowl ring as Russell Wilson’s backup in 2014.
Following the 2015 season, Jackson departed the league and became a graduate assistant at Alabama State before landing the quarterbacks coach job at Tennessee State. He was entering his second season at TSU.
