CENTER POINT – A man who is accused of firing multiple rounds into the vehicle of a 16-year-old girl in Center Point has been arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder along with other charges.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced that it arrested Walter Kennebrew Silmon, 21, at 11:45 a.m. on Monday, April 13, 2020.
Silmon is charged in connection with the shooting of a teenager in the 1900 block of First Street Northeast in Center Point at 11:30 p.m. on Friday, April 3. Authorities were called to the scene of a reported shooting, and upon arrival, they discovered a 16-year-old female passenger in a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds.
The sheriff’s office said that the driver of the vehicle observed a silver SUV stopped on the side of the roadway and a black male waiting in the middle of the road with a gun. The male, now identified as Silmon, began to shoot into the victim’s vehicle. As they attempted to flee the scene, Silmon rammed their vehicle with his SUV. The victim was able to drive away from the scene and call 911.
Once stopped, the driver discovered that the passenger had been stuck by the gunfire. The passenger was transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Silmon is being held in the Jefferson County Jail. He is charged with two counts of attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
His bonds total $150,000.
