JEFFERSON COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash claimed the life of one teenager and sent another person to the hospital on Monday night, according to Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates.
Yates said Taylor Ronald Akin, 16, of Adger, was killed in the crash at 15th Street Road at CCC Camp Road in Bessemer, at approximately 9:02 p.m.
Akin was the passenger of a Chevrolet Camaro traveling south on 15th Street Road approaching the CCC Camp Road intersection, Yates said.
“The decedent’s vehicle collided with a Chevrolet pickup truck, that was also traveling south on 15th Street Road, as the pickup truck was attempting to turn onto CCC Camp Road,” Yates said. “The collision caused the Camaro to roll multiple times and come to rest off the shoulder of the roadway.”
Akin was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the Camaro was taken to an area hospital.
The crash is under investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office.
