PINSON — Former Pinson Valley starting quarterback and two-time state champion Barry White announced through social media on Tuesday that he will head north and attend Alabama A&M University in the fall.
White, a multi-sport athlete, posted on Twitter the news that he intends to walk on to the baseball and football teams.
Behind the legs and the arm of White, the Indians posted a 10-3 record and concluded this past season just one game removed from the program’s third consecutive state championship berth. Pinson Valley’s success came with the added pressure of attempting to fill the shoes of then-departed and current Auburn quarterback Bo Nix, who guided the Indians to two state championships.
With White under center, Pinson Valley posted 445 total points this past season, which is just behind Class 6A state champion, Oxford (556).

In addition to football, White played on an Indians’ baseball team that wrapped the shortened season with seven victories in their final 10 games.
White will next look to walk on an Alabama A&M football team that concluded this past season 7-5 in what was head coach Connell Maynor’s third season at the helm. The Bulldogs were led under center by then-junior quarterback Aqeel Glass, who finished this past season as an All-SWAC second-team selection.
“Last year he had a breakout season and so we looking for him to continue to develop as a quarterback, a leader and lead this football team,” Maynor told WHNT19 News. “He’s doing everything that we ask him to do. He’s understanding that a quarterback is different from everybody else. He’s a big reason why we had two winning seasons back to back.”
