BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a bizarre incident that happened on Thursday, April 23, 2020, around 6:51 a.m.
When police first responded to the scene in the 900 block of Avenue G, they found a 2002 Ford Explorer with multiple bullet holes and blood inside the vehicle. There were no signs of a victim. The SUV was towed to Weil Wrecker to be processed by an evidence technician.
During an examination of the vehicle, a child was found asleep, in the back of the vehicle, under a pile of clothes. The child was not hurt.
Investigators believe the child’s mother was involved in an altercation with her boyfriend. Gunfire was likely exchanged while the child was inside the vehicle. The child was then left in the vehicle.
Birmingham Police said the child has been placed into Child Protective Services.
