PINSON — The pieces to the puzzle continue to come together for first year Pinson Valley head coach Sam Shade following the announcement on Thursday evening that the Indians have hired a new offensive coordinator.
Pinson Valley confirmed the news that Dillon Griggs has stepped down from his role as the offensive coordinator at Jackson High School to slide into the same role with the Indians. In addition to his on-field duties, Griggs will assume the role as the school’s physical education teacher.
“Jackson will always hold a special place in my family’s heart,” Griggs said. “The people of this city has treated us like family from the day we moved in, and helped us with whatever we needed. Friday nights in Jackson are one a kind, and I will never forget what it was like to be apart of Aggie Nation.”

Griggs departs a Jackson football team that has gone 98-28 in the past decade. The Aggies concluded this past season 6-6 and fell in the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs to Briarwood. Despite finishing the season third in Class 5A, Region 1, Jackson’s offense was the second highest-scoring offense in the region, averaging 29 points per game. The Aggies totaled 348 points on the year, second to only 11-1 Faith Academy.
Griggs will become the offensive coordinator for a Pinson Valley offense that will more than likely be helmed by Fyffe High School sophomore transfer Zach Pyron. Pryon guided Fyffe to the Class 2A state championship in 2019. Griggs will also benefit from a loaded running game led by three-star running back Kenji Christian.
“(I) can’t thank coach Samuel Shade and Mr. (Michael) Turner enough for this amazing opportunity,” Griggs said.
