FORESTDALE — Updated: Margaret Owens Whaley, 61, who had been reported missing at 4 p.m. on Monday was located at about 11:30 p.m., according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Ms. Whaley had left the Cherry Hill Rehabilitation Center on Jeff Germany Parkway and was found several miles away near the Flying J convenience store on Daniel Payne Boulevard. Ms. Whaley was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated.
Reported earlier: The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a woman who they believe broke a window and left a nursing home on Monday, April 27, 2020.
Margaret Owens Whaley, 61, was reported missing around 4 p.m. after it was discovered she had left Cherry Hill Rehabilitation and HealthCare Center, in Forestdale. The facility is located at 1250 Jeff Germany Parkway. She was last seen wearing a pink shirt, blue jeans and a dark jacket, in the 1000 block of Dugan Avenue, which is about two miles from the facility.
Jefferson County is using the Star One helicopter and K9 deputies in the search. Rescue teams have been activated and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has issued a missing senior alert.
Deputies said Whaley suffers from Alzheimer’s and is mute. She is 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighs around 120 pounds.
