BESSEMER — The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office charged a 17-year-old after a fatal wreck in the Bessemer area.
On April 20, 2020, the teen crashed the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro he was driving and his 16-year-old friend was killed. Taylor Akin was killed when the car struck an SUV, left the roadway and overturned.
The district attorney’s office said evidence shows the car was traveling at approximately 115 mph at the point of impact. A person in the SUV was also hurt.
The teen turned himself in on Monday, April 27. He is charged with manslaughter and additional charges may be filed. The bond for the manslaughter charge is $30,000.
