SPRINGVILLE – An inmate incarcerated within Springville’s St. Clair Correctional Facility has tested positive for COVID-19, the Alabama Department of Corrections announced on Monday.
According to the department, the inmate tested positive while he was at a local hospital receiving care for a non-COVID-19 related preexisting medical condition.
The department of corrections consulted with the state medical director and decided to place the dorm where the inmate was housed on level-one quarantine. The department stated that “inmates on level-one quarantine will be monitored closely for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 to include taking and recording temperatures twice per day. Appropriate measures will be taken should an inmate become symptomatic in accordance with CDC guidelines for COVID-19.”
This positive test represents the seventh confirmed COVID-19 positive test throughout the state’s inmate population. Three of those cases remain active.
