CENTER POINT — Center Point Mayor Tom Henderson said he plans to propose the purchase of more Flock Safety cameras throughout the city.
The city currently has four cameras. Henderson said he has already talked to Alabama Power about using poles for the cameras. He said the city is now in the process of identifying locations where cameras are needed. Once those locations are identified, Henderson said the number of cameras will be determined and he will present that information to the city council.
Henderson said he would like to see cameras put in the entrance of some subdivisions and on main thoroughfares throughout the city.
The number of cameras in Henderson’s proposal has not been finalized. He said he will propose the idea at the next council meeting.
The city of Clay recently approved the purchase of 37 Flock cameras for subdivisions.
The cameras take snapshots of tags and alert authorities to stolen tags, stolen vehicles, and to tags registered to a person with a warrant. Authorities can also enter “hot list” information to search for certain vehicles.
