BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Coroner said an Alabama prisoner on work release died after becoming ill while on the job, on Monday, May 11, 2020.
Colony Nicole Wilson, 40, of Birmingham, was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital’s Emergency Room, where she was pronounced dead. Coroner Bill Yates said Wilson the circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated by the Alabama Department of Corrections, Investigations and Intelligence Division.
According to court documents, Wilson was serving a 20-year sentence for aggravated child abuse. An indictment filed in 2004 said Wilson tortured her child, causing serious injury to the child. She was convicted in 2005.
At the time of her death, Wilson was a tenant at the Birmingham Women’s Community Based Facility and Community Work Center.
