BIRMINGHAM — Birmingham Police identified a man killed after being caught up in crossfire during a shooting in the southwest part of the city. The shooting happened around 7:15 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2020.
Police were first dispatched to the scene at the intersection of 17th Street and Jefferson Avenue SW, on a call of a person shot.
Larry Pettway, 70, of Birmingham, was found on a sidewalk suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound, according to Birmingham Police. Pettway was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that happened around 7:15 p.m., on Friday, June 6, 2020.
Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin said officers were called to the scene at 17th Street SW and Jefferson Avenue, on a report of a person shot. The officers found a man on the sidewalk, suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
The man was taken to the hospital where he later died, Mauldin said.
