“Let us remember the life and service of Sgt. Williams, whose sacrifice will never be forgotten,” Ivey said in a statement. “He proudly served his community as a police officer for 23 years, the last three of those at the Moody Police Department.”
Williams was a sergeant at the time of his death, but Police Chief Thomas Hunt promoted him to lieutenant posthumously.
The governor also offered condolences and prayers to Williams’ family and the city of Moody.
Flags should be flown at half-staff until sunset on June 8.
