TRUSSVILLE — A flyer on social media is calling for people to gather in Trussville on Saturday, June 13, 2020, for a Black Lives Matter protest.
Organizers plan to protest in the park across from City Hall from 9 a.m. until Sundown Saturday. This is a separate rally from the one planned by the Alabama Rally Against Injustice, set for Friday evening at the mall.
According to the flyer, the protest will be peaceful.
“The city of Trusville is secluded from Birmingham and has not had to directly deal with this movement,” the flyer stated. “Please make signs to encourage people driving by to educate themselves!”
Mayor Buddy Choat said the city is aware of the plans for the protest Saturday and is planning accordingly.
A group of local graduates gathered on Sunday, June 7, at the mall in Trussville. The peaceful protest was organized by graduates of local high schools.
The demonstrations are part of a growing movement following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
