HOMEWOOD — The Homewood Police Department announced that a Georgia woman was arrested on June 12, 2020, after the department said that she trafficked two teenage girls.
Marlette Lychelle Smith, 26, of Rome, Georgia, was arrested on June 12, 2020, and charged with first-degree human trafficking. She is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on $1 million bond.
Her arrest follows the Homewood Police Department receiving information on June 3, 2020, that two females, aged 15 and 16, both from California, were possibly the victims of human trafficking. Officers responded to a hotel in the Oxmoor Road area and located the two females, who were then referred to a local victim advocacy agency for assistance. With assistance from the FBI, the HPD determined that the two juveniles were trafficked from Memphis to Atlanta and then to Homewood.
Officials were able to identify Smith as the suspect and took her into custody.
No other information has been released.
