BIRMINGHAM — An early morning shooting in Birmingham has left a man fighting for his life and a woman injured, the Birmingham Police Department said.
Officers from the BPD and Birmingham Fire and Rescue were called to the scene of a shooting at around 9:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of Fourth Avenue West following Shot Spotter reports of shots fired. The Shot Spotter system detected multiple rounds being fired throughout Fourth Avenue West and Second Avenue West.
Upon arrival, officials discovered a crime scene that spanned multiple blocks with rounds strewn about the road. They also learned that two individuals were wounded in the shooting: a man was shot in the back and transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries, while a female was later located at an auto parts store with a graze wound to her face.
Officials stated that it appeared that individuals from multiple vehicles fired at one another. It remains unclear if the wounded were caught in the crossfire or were involved in the incident.
This incident remains under investigation.
