LEEDS — The Alabama Department of Transportation will make improvements to a portion of Interstate 20 in the city limits of Leeds.
The project will take place from mile marker 140 to just before mile marker 143, in both directions. The improvements will include grading, draining and paving, from exit 140 to the St. Clair County line, which is a 2.8 mile stretch of interstate. Deteriorating conditions can be observed in the section of the roadway.
The Leeds City Council approved a resolution supporting the project during its regular meeting on Monday, June 15, 2020.
Lane closures will be announced at a later date. The date for the project has not been posted by ALDOT, but in a contract for the work, ALDOT specified there would be no lane closures during Indycar races at Barber Motorsports or during Nascar races in Talladega.
